Our next showcase artist is an excellent London based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, who we had the great pleasure of meeting at one of Kal Lavelle's excellent WLS shows a few years ago at the World's End. With Gavin James, Billie Marten and August & After on the bill, it was a pretty special night. Josie Charlwood (Artist)'s music is certainly worth exploring further. Not only is she very talented, but also a master on the loop station as well. Her music videos also attract a lot of interest on YouTube with 8.5 million total views to date.

Josie now 21 first started playing instruments when she was 11 encouraged by her father and mother. With friends she started her own band 'Escape Route 36', when she was about 14 and still at school. But the band broke up after school and Josie left to concentrate on her solo material.

She first got into looping after being massively inspired by singer-songwriters such as Ed Sheeran and KT Tunstall. She bought a BOSS RC-30 loop pedal back in April 2011 and just began experimenting. Josie paid a lot of attention to how loop artists break their tracks into parts. After a week or so (and some serious practice) she filmed her arrangement of “Electric Feel” by MGMT.

Her father is a producer and her mother is a music teacher at the local Primary School. They have both been musicians for a while now, in fact they met through playing in a band together. Her father also runs thetobesmusic.com an independent record label, which Josie releases all her music through.

Josie has recently completed her music degree in London.
