Cheap - Katy Hurt

Our next LCM featured artist Katy Hurt and her great band The Healers are rapidly becoming a force to be reckoned with. It has been thrilling to see Katy develop from a solo acoustic singer-songwriter into a very confident and successful Country artist in the UK. As a great taster of her new music our LCM #TrackOfTheDay is the very catchy 'Cheap', which reminds us of a feisty and sassy young Dolly Parton. It's taken from her Pieces of Me album, which was released in April. Well worth checking out if you haven't already.  We think that 2018 will be a great year for Katy and her band and we are really looking forward to following her continued progress.

Katy Hurt’s last single “Part Time Girlfriend”, which reached the Top 20 in iTunes’ Worldwide Country Chart back in November, pre-empted a whirlwind of events that have elevated her profile in the world of country music. She was almost immediately signed up as a Yamaha Artist and then offered a publishing deal by Metropolis Music Publishing.

Katy’s talent as an innovative singer-songwriter was recognised early when she released her debut EP “Blue Snake” in 2014, which resulted in a nomination for the Horizon Act of the Year at the British Country Music Awards.

Growing up in the States, Katy gained an understanding and appreciation of the country sound before moving to Southern England, where she currently lives. Her first recording was made at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis when she was just 13 years old.

2016 has already been a very busy year for Katy. Besides gigging almost every week, she graduated from ACM’s Songwriting & Artist Development program and became the first ever student to be signed. Subsequently, Metropolis’ award-winning team was instrumental in the production and release of her first iTunes Number 1 “Love You More”.

Katy has performed live at many high profile events this year, including Henley Festival where she and Will Young sang with Jose Feliciano; both CarFest events; FSA Festival and the Buckle & Boots Festival in Manchester.

Through the late summer Katy has been reinforcing her links with the US music scene, she supported the legendary Mac McAnally at The Borderline in London prior to heading off to Nashville for a month of co-writing, recording at the Ryman and making her debut at the Bluebird café where she played alongside Sonia Leigh and Ward Gunther. Most recently she completed her inaugural UK tour and then became the first country artist ever to be invited to perform at the iconic Jazz Café in London. In the same weekend Katy performed three songs at the 2016 British Country Music Awards.
