Our super smooth featured Yacht Rock track is taken from their debut album ‘West End Coast’. The forces behind Young Gun Silver Fox are Andy Platts and Shawn Lee. It was inevitable that two of the UK's most prolific and versatile pop music linguists would one day collaborate on a studio project that crystallized many of their creative strengths. ‘West End Coast’ fuses the talents they've mastered in their respective careers, from Andy's role as frontman and co-founder of Mamas Gun to Shawn's numerous self-produced projects with AM and his own Ping Pong Orchestra. he authentic hybrid of styles on West End Coast is further steeped in the fact that Shawn, the team's silver-haired Silver Fox, is an American who resided in LA for seven years before relocating to London. Our featured track today is the wonderful ‘She Took A Gamble’ by Hannah Read who is originally from Edinburgh but is now based in Brooklyn, New York. It’s the first single from her excellent ‘'Way Out I'll Wander' released in February 2018.

Born and raised in Scotland and now residing in Brooklyn, New York, Hannah Read is a versatile multi-instrumentalist widely recognized on the International stage. She’s best known for her fiddle playing, songwriting and composing and was recently described as one of "the finest singers of the day" in the UK’s MOJO Magazine. Hannah leads her own band and is an in-demand collaborator on both sides of the Atlantic - including one part of the critically acclaimed British folk super-group ‘Songs of Separation’, winners of ‘Album of the Year’ at the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Hannah spent her youth playing fiddle and singing in the rich traditional music scenes of Edinburgh and on the Isle of Eigg, a remote Island off the west coast of Scotland. With musical training at The City of Edinburgh Music School, The American School of Modern Music in Paris and the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Hannah gathered the musical tools, vocabulary and experience that propelled her into the thriving Brooklyn music scene.

Hannah’s latest solo album Way Out I’ll Wander, was released in February 2018 on UK-based label Hudson Records. With comparisons to Sandy Denny, Joni Mitchell and Feist, Hannah seamlessly weaves in her influences from both sides of the Atlantic on an album that’s “deserving crossover status… nine gorgeous originals” (The Guardian). Recorded in winter between Upstate New York and New Hampshire, and produced by Brooklyn-based producer/engineer Charlie Van Kirk, each song on this album captures a very specific moment embodying “an inherent beauty” (Acoustic Magazine) with musings of home on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as tales of travel, love and loss. This album primarily features Hannah’s vocals, guitar, fiddle playing, joined by special guests including Sarah Jarosz, Jefferson Hamer and Jeff Picker.

Over the last decade living in New York and Boston, collaboration through music has been a major part of Hannah’s growth as a musician. She’s recorded fiddle, guitar and backing vocals with many notable artists including Rosanne Cash, David Duchovny, Silvina Moreno, Lola Kirke, Ember Isles, Rowan Rheingans, John Fatum, Ewan Macpherson, Keenan O’Meara, Raffi, Hanneke Cassell and Robinson & Rohe.

She has toured extensively throughout North America, the UK and Europe with both her own self-titled project, as well as performances with Jefferson Hamer, Kris Drever, Darlingside, Livingston Taylor, EVA, Oli Rockberger, Melanie Safka, Julie Fowlis, Ember Isles, Karan Casey, Eddie Barbash, Daimh, Songs of Separation alongside Eliza Carthy, Karine Polwart and Mary Macmaster, Juno award winner Rose Cousins and Grammy Award winning Sarah Jarosz, Celine Dion and Tom Chapin.

Jonathan Wilson - Desert Raven

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Desert Raven’ - Jonathan Wilson

Our featured track today is a great song from LA based Jonathan Wilson’s 2011 debut album ‘Gentle Spirit’. This highly acclaimed album was credited with the #4 spot on Mojo Magazine's ‘2011 Best of Albums of the Year’. It’s an excellent slice of mid 70's psych-folk with some super guitar playing and a wonderful string arrangement. It really reminds us of Israel Nash, Neil Young and CSNY. Jonathan is credited as being one of the revivers of the Laurel Canyon music scene. He is also currently on a UK and mainland Europe tour with all the details on his website. Jonathan Wilson is very much in demand in 2017 he produced Father John Misty's Grammy nominated ‘Pure Comedy’ and touring arenas around the globe as a guitarist and vocalist for Pink Floyd legend Roger Waters (for whom he also contributed to the lauded ‘Is This The Life We Really Want?’ album.) Wilson also saw widespread acclaim heaped on Karen Elson’s sophomore LP ‘Double Roses’, which he recorded with her in Los Angeles in 2016.

In 2018 he toured worldwide with Roger Waters tour and released his own new solo album ‘Rare Birds’ in the spring. The highly anticipated album which features backing vocals from Lana Del Rey, Josh Tillman, fellow Roger Waters bandmates Lucius and an extraordinary musical gift from otherworldly Brian Eno collaborator Laraaji was released through Bella Union worldwide.

Although much of the album is comprised lyrically of meditations on a failed relationship and its aftermath, Wilson insists that ‘Rare Birds’ is not really a concept album. "It's meant more as a healing affair, a rejuvenation, a reconciliation, for others, and for me. I wanted to balance personal narrative with the need I feel for calming healing music. I think we need journeys in sound, psychedelic gossamer-winged music that includes elements consciously and purposefully to incite hope, positivity, longing, reckless abandon and regret. It's all in there."

And, for this one, music critics will need to retire the comparisons to heritage rockers and Laurel Canyon troubadours as they’re hardly useful anymore. Wilson's new sound takes a synthetic/acoustic, best-of-both-worlds analog/digital hybrid approach to achieve the complexity, sonic density and glossy hi-fi coating of ‘Rare Birds’. Heard for the first time on a Jonathan Wilson album are the sounds of synthesizers and drum machines.

"The Neil Young, CSN, Dennis Wilson and Tom Petty comparisons for the first two records were flattering, but I didn't ever really see it that way myself.” The things that Wilson had been obsessing on, and he can clearly hear the influences of, are artists like Talk Talk, Arthur Russell, maybe a Sleigh Bells-meet-George Harrison kinda thing. “I hear mostly ME actually. On this album I’m quoting from earlier versions of myself, continuing a narrative I’ve had musically since I got my first 4-track when I was thirteen. I hear the influence of my vocal coach. I hear the influence of having worked in my studio with Roger Waters for months during the same time period that I was making this record. That gave me the feeling I could expand into certain psychedelic and found sound labyrinths.” There are voices, sirens, children playing, and more enhancing spatial sounds, while musical compadres Lana Del Rey and Josh Tillman (Father John Misty) appear as backing vocalists on “Living With Myself” and “49 Hairflips”, respectively.

Our featured song today is a great atmospheric cover of Chris Isaak’s 1991 hit ‘Wicked Game’ by fast rising London based UK singer-songwriter Grace Carter.

Grace grew up in Brighton listening to the likes of Lauryn Hill and Nina Simone, which is evident in her powerful songwriting, which shows emotional and musical maturity. She began songwriting during her school days, and at the age of fourteen was already performing her own material in public. One year later, Grace had converted her bedroom into a makeshift recording studio and when she reached Music College she taught herself the piano by watching YouTube videos.

Grace rose to prominence after supporting Dua Lipa on tour during The Self-Titled Tour in October 2017, and has additionally been a supporting act for other performers including Rag'n'Bone Man. In 2018-19, she headlined two tours of the UK and Europe. Gracer placed third in BBC Music's "Sound of 2019" poll of industry experts and artists. She is the step-daughter of singer-songwriter and former Music Week journalist Paul Phillips.

We take a trip to the West Coast and sunny LA to meet San Francisco born Olivia Somerlyn better known by her stage name Livvia. Olivia is currently a student at UC Berkeley. Olivia writes or co-writes all her own music and lyrics, and plays piano, keyboards and guitar. We really like this surfing themed video. The song was also recently used in a episode of Hawaii 5-0.

Olivia has toured the UK with Jessie J and Lawson, including two shows at The O2 Arena in London, and has also opened for the Jonas Brothers. She toured with Big Time Rush and Victoria Justice on Live Nation's 2013 Nickelodeon Summer Break Tour of over 30 cities in the United States. She then toured with Big Time Rush again in Central America and South America. In 2014, she was the featured performer at Sony Pictures Classics' annual Oscar Pre-Awards dinner party. She also performed at that year's New York Fashion Week, at shows for Charlotte Ronson and Isabella Rose Taylor. In 2015, she opened for Meghan Trainor in Glasgow, Manchester, London, Birmingham and also for the dates in Europe for Trainor's That Bass Tour. She also opened for Lindsey Stirling in the same year in the United States.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Little Bird’ - Our Atlantic Roots

Our featured track today is the wonderful new single from Cornwall based duo Mac and Laura Johnston of Our Atlantic Roots. It’s the title track of their exciting forthcoming EP ‘Little Bird’ set for release in September.

Mac and Laura bring an uplifting blend of American and British alternative folk, with harmonies that are rich and dynamic. Mac’s country bluegrass roots add a popular authentic southern vibe to many songs, with the more folk-inspired influence coming from Laura’s side of the family being English and Irish.

The husband/wife duo met in Asheboro, North Carolina in August 2012. Just a few weeks after meeting, they wrote their first song together and straight away people commented on the way their voices and styles complimented each other. The coming months sparked a flame that would turn into quite the adventure. In April 2014 the duo married and relocated to the UK. September 2017 saw the release of Mac and Laura’s debut EP ‘First Light’ recorded with award-winning folk producer Andy Bell. In 2018, the duo focused on writing, and are currently recording new material which will be released throughout 2019.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Loud In Here’ - The Nouveaux Honkies

We take a trip today to Knoxville, Tennessee to meet Tim O'Donnell (guitar, vocals) and Rebecca Dawkins (violin, vocals) of The Nouveaux Honkies. We love this title track from their latest album released in March of last year.. It’s has a beautiful fusion of Country, Blues and Folk. It reminds us a little of Billy Joel crossed with Mandolin Orange..

In mid 2014, Rebecca Dawkins and Tim O’Donnell, of The Nouveaux Honkies, hoisted anchor and set sail in their rebuilt RV. The journey started in South Florida and took them as far west as the Rockies, as far north as the Great Lakes, as far east as Cape Cod, and returned south for the winter. It’s been somewhere around 150 thousand miles, 600 shows, and at least one million smiles that has influenced The Nouveaux Honkies and their Loud In Here CD release in March of 2018. The New Year will also see TNH with a permanent residence in Knoxville, TN. O’Donnell says, “We based out of Tennessee the last two summers and fell in love with the Smokies. Knoxville will be a wonderful spring through fall hub for traveling and we also love this little city.” Their 2015 release, “Blues For Country,” masterfully blended styles. Their new release, “Loud In Here,” is a continuance of that same concept, respecting the greats and creating their own gumbo, which reveals a highway of influences.

“Loud In Here” is their third full length release and their second album recorded at The Zone in the hill country of Dripping Springs, Texas. It’s a culmination of the bonds they have made across the country. The album features special guests: Bill Kirchen, Ephraim Owens, Nate Rowe, Chris Gage, Lloyd Maines, Pat Manske, and Tim Buppert. O’Donnell says, “We arranged this record in the studio. We wrote most of the stuff a few weeks earlier when we were in Nashville and working with all theses dudes was just awesome. It was super relaxed and just plain fun. Ray Kennedy at Zen Masters did his magic and Tanya Shaw Jeffrey from Ginseng Creative in Colorado knocked the artwork outta the park.”

Co-writing credits go to Rich Lyons from Florida. The record spans a full emotional gauntlet and Rebecca Dawkins’ fiddling has expanded into an amazing singing presence. From humor and quirky duets like Will and Faith, Big Heart, Hard Head and their version of The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly, through innovative ballads like The Glades, Loud In Here, Heart Can’t Live Here, and Wichita Lineman, to pumping rockers like Today Won’t Be Easy and Playing Cards With Myself, this new record is a musical rollercoaster. The Nouveaux Honkies look forward to the new release and performing for the folks that afforded them the life they love.

Our LCM featured track today is the wonderful second single and title track from the album by Scottish Singer-Songwriter, Martha. It was produced by David Spicher and features Eamon McLoughlin on Fiddle; Todd Lombardo and Bill Cooley on guitars, Rory Hoffman on keys, David Spicher on bass and harmonies and Dave Racine on drums & percussion.

The album was written and recorded in Nashville and sees her develop her personal songwriting voice whilst remaining true to the musical influences of her childhood. Growing up, she was raised on a diet of Americana music, before she knew what that even meant. The Eagles, The Traveling Wilburys and folk heroes, The Dubliners were all staples of the Healy family vinyl collection. The collection also included music by Patsy Cline, Carole King and anything remotely Motown.

‘Keep The Flame Alight’ is an album recorded in Nashville, but influenced by Martha's Celtic roots. Through a mix of personal insight and story songs, she provides a fresh take on some classic themes: the need to leave somewhere to help find your place in the world; the ache of an unfulfilled love; the complexity of family and friendships and the need to live your own dreams. She also explores how being a woman in the 21st century is not without its fair share of pressures and demands.

We take a trip to Nashville today to visit Natalia, Christina and Hannah from Mississippi sister trio Southern Halo. ‘Sunshine’is their catchy, bright and high energy new single and perfect for a summer beach trip. .The sisters are great live and play a really rocky set. They have visited the UK three times and hopefully they will be crossing the pond soon.

Southern Halo have won multiple talent contests as pre-teens. In 2014, they set the record as the youngest artists ever to compete in the Texaco Country Showdown, making it to the national finals at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Brantley Gilbert, Maren Morris, Eric Paslay, Tyler Farr, Deana Carter, Love and Theft — even blues immortal B.B. King and legendary chanteuse Dionne Warwick, among many other headliners, have welcomed them as their opening act. They’ve performed at the CMA Music Festival and at a pre-show on the rooftop terrace of the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. They’ve also hosted their own radio show, “Hangin’ With Halo,” on WDMS-FM and worldwide on CMR Nashville. Since their debut in 2014, Jamestown Revival has been building an extensive fan base through grass roots support and relentless touring, performing at iconic venues from the Ryman Auditorium to Red Rocks Amphitheater as well as festivals such as Coachella, Austin City Limits and Stagecoach among countless others. Led by Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance – who have maintained a close friendship since meeting at age 15 in Magnolia, TX – Jamestown Revival is pursuing their own musical vision by focusing on their roots and harmonies. Most of the time, Clay takes lead vocal with Chance on high harmony, a striking blend that appears effortless.

This obvious camaraderie is a big part of the group’s appeal. “People say they can see it and they can feel it,” Clay says. “I mean, we’ve been friends forever, it feels like. It’s a brotherhood. Our featured track today is the great second single release from their forthcoming new album ‘Run Home Slow’ set for release on Friday August 2nd. We are big fans of the band here at LCM HQ, so we are really looking forward to listening to the album in full.

The band are Josh Teskey, Sam Teskey, Brendon Love and Liam Gough

The band will be headlining the Jazz Cafe in London on September 3rd but unfortunately it’s sold out, but you can catch them at the Love Supreme Festival in Lewes on July 6th.

The Teskey Brothers are a rare musical gem. Honouring that old school Motown sound and working it into something of their very own, the band have received widespread acclaim for their gorgeous debut album ‘Half Mile Harvest’.

A raw combination of soul and blues, the record has warmed the hearts of listeners everywhere with it’s melancholic, analogue tones. Written by all four band members, the album was recorded in their own home studio, self-produced and released independently.

Listening to the record you’d be forgiven for thinking it was the work of Stax Records alumni in Memphis circa ‘67 rather than a group of twenty-somethings from the Yarra Valley just outside Melbourne. The feeling is as old as the tape machine it was recorded on and it’s a true expression of love.

Onstage singer Josh Teskey’s smoked whiskey voice defies expectation as the band around him hold an irresistible groove. Their undeniable live show has wowed audiences around the world, leaving them infected with soul and blues.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Both Sides Now’ - Zoe Wren

We have something very special for you today. We are excited to premiere this fantastic first track from the forthcoming EP ‘Inspired’ by Zoe Wren. The new EP is out on 4th July via Folkstock Records, with the launch gig planned at Camden Chapel in London. The single is one of two tracks, the other being ‘Let No Man Steal Your Thyme’, which are coming out on 14th June as a general release on all platforms.

We love this wonderful cover of a Joni Mitchell classic. The new EP features six tracks by female singer songwriters who have been a very important inspiration for Zoe. It includes fantastic covers originally by Tracy Chapman (Talking ‘Bout a Revolution), Lady Gaga (Joanne), Kate Bush (The Man With The Child In His Eyes), Sandy Denny (Who Knows Where The Time Goes) and the traditional ‘Let No Man Steal Your Thyme’.

It is always our great pleasure to support Zoe and her music as we have since 2013. Zoe was also our LCM ‘Favourite New Artist’ in 2018, as voted by members of our group.

‘Since her beginnings as a busker in Camden, Zoe has gone on to perform on stages from Cambridge Folk Festival to Glasgow Celtic Connections, and 100 Wardour Street to The Shard. She is a winner of the PRS Lynsey de Paul Award, and has had airplay on BBC Radio 2 on the Bob Harris show. Drawing on influences from the unorthodox harmonies of Joni Mitchell to the honest storytelling of Tracy Chapman, and mixing these with cinematic pedal effects, Zoe is creating a sound that Fatea Magazine has called 'refreshingly bold. She has worked with Folkstock since it started in 2013'.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘We Are’ - HAEVN

Our featured track today is the beautifully orchestrated ‘We Are’, a tale of lost love from Dutch duo HEAVN. They are joined for the recording by a 50 piece string orchestra at the Galaxy Studio's in Belgium. It’s taken from their new CD ‘Symphonic Tales’ release, which is available to purchase from their website.

HAEVN was founded by songwriter Marijn van der Meer & film composer Jorrit Kleijnen, working from their studio in Amsterdam. Before releasing any material they teamed up with Tim Bran, the acclaimed producer behind London Grammar and Birdy. This collaboration resulted in the singles 'Finding out More' and 'Where the Heart is' and immediately attracted the attention of two major car brands who used HAEVN's music in their advertisement campaigns. This massive exposure gave the band a headstart and touring was the next step. Soon Marijn and Jorrit found their musical wings in guitarist Tom Veugen, drummer David Broeders and bass player Mart Jeninga. In September 2015 HAEVN gave their first live performance. The unique combination of cinematic melodies performed by Marijns warm vocals has conquered the hearts of many music lovers across Europe.

‘Finding out more’ received airplay on all major Dutch radio stations and got played over 7 million times on Spotify. Volkskrant, Trouw, and Spotify elected HAEVN as 'one to watch' for 2016.

HAEVN received a nomination for an Edison Award and 3FM Award in category 'Best upcoming act'. Their headliner show in Paradiso and other venues across the Netherlands all sold out in a few days. Soon after that, they were part of the headliner acts at festivals Where The Wild Things Are, Indian Summer and Concert At Sea. Their second single 'Bright Lights' again received much airplay on the Dutch radio. In 2017 HAEVN played in a sold out Carré, TivoliVredenburg and Oosterpoort.
