Rita Satch is quickly building a reputation as an unforgettable presence in Melbourne’s neo-soul scene, inspired equally by the pop melodies and rich harmonies of Motown as by the dark soulful beats and modern grooves of UK's underground. Rita’s voice reminds us of the trip-hop of Portishead with the retro feel of Amy Winehouse. Rita is one of our LCM 'ones to watch in 2015'.
With the self titled second EP, released on June 16th, 2014 Rita has blossomed into a songwriter in her own right, penning songs of heartbreak, pleasure and pain that wash over you, with catchy choruses and lyrics that linger in your subconscious and will have you humming the tunes after one listen.
A jazz and soul prodigy from a young age, Rita grew up loving and singing the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles and Nina Simone. Rita’s inimitable and powerful voice soon garnered her the attention of some of Australia’s most acclaimed musicians, singing with Australian jazz greats such as Allan Zavod and Mark Fitzgibbon, who would go on to call Rita “the best singer songwriter to hit the scene in a long time.”
With the release of her debut EP Awoken in 2011, Rita thrived as the new jazz singer and chanteuse, cutting her teeth in the Melbourne scene supporting the likes of Australian legends Renee Geyer, Kate Ceberano and Christine Anu amongst others.
It’s apparent on Rita’s brand new self-titled EP that her musical style has developed from her earlier release. Influenced by contemporary beats, the music of Rita Satch has transformed into a darker, groovier and sexier beast. Produced by Ryan Ritchie (The Raah Project, Kimbra, Paris Wells) and featuring legendary violinist Tim Fain (Black Swan, collaborator with Phillip Glass), Rita’s upcoming EP showcases commanding vocal swells balanced with intimate drunken admissions, exposing the fragile atmosphere of these late-night sleepless sessions.
The first single from the EP ‘Love You Like I Do’ received airplay on Triple J, PBS and RRR, with the track reaching #4 on the Unearthed Hip Hop charts. Not to be outdone, new single ‘Not Ready For Love’ is following suit with a premiere on Triple J the week of release.
Widely lauded for her dominating and seductive live performances, Rita Satch is a modern day siren – welcoming you inside of her mind, body and soul with no promises of letting you out.
