Our showcase artist today is the excellent Bristol based singer-songwriterShe Makes War (Laura Kidd) who has just released her great new album 'Direction of Travel'. Laura is currently on tour and coming to the Seabright Arms to the 19th May.

She Makes War is the gloom-pop solo project of multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Laura Kidd.

It’s been a busy 18 months for the Bristol based polymath, taking in two German tours, a universally acclaimed one-woman show at Edinburgh Fringe (“a charming hour of biographical storytelling and music…perfectly executed acoustic gems” – The List), support tours with Duke Special (UK & Ireland) and The Levellers (UK & Europe), a 22 date UK headline tour, dates with tUnE-yArDs, Gruff Rhys, New Model Army and Pretty Vicious, and the recording and release of the “Disarm:15” EP (December 2015) and third album “Direction Of Travel” (April 2016).

New album “Direction Of Travel” was recorded in the depths of winter in Bristol, Brighton and London. Produced by She Makes War, mixed by Dan Austin (Doves, Pixies) and featuring guest appearances from Tanya Donelly and Mark Chadwick, most of the instruments on the album were played by Laura herself, added to by a cast of supporting musicians including Clive Deamer and Andy Sutor on drums, The McCarricks and Nicole Robson on strings and Cajita on piano.

She Makes War’s creative performances on grungey electric guitar, claustrophobic vocal loops, ukulele, marching drum, foot percussion and megaphone have been captivating audiences around the UK and Europe for the last six years, both at her “Breakfast With Apollo” headline shows and supporting the likes of Suede, The Levellers, tUnE-yArDs, Gruff Rhys, The Magic Numbers, Pretty Vicious, Duke Special, Shlomo, Midge Ure, New Model Army, Glen Matlock and Earl Slick, This Is The Kit, Nadine Shah, Erica Nockalls and Miles Hunt, Chris Helme and Drugstore.
