‘Goodnight Hollywood’ is the new single from one of our favourite US duos Texas born but California based Jamestown Revival.

Jon and Zach comment “At the end of last year, we parted ways with our label and we once again found ourselves on our own; independent. It was a startling thing at first, but ironically it always seems we're at our best when we're on our own. As the smoke was clearing after our last record, we wrote this song. It was the first page in the next chapter of this journey. After this song, we wrote an entire album. While this song didn't make the cut for the album, we still felt like it was an important part of the story. We wanted to give it a modest little life of its own, and in that spirit, it is our pleasure to give you 'Goodnight Hollywood'.at least be a bonus track.”

Jamestown Revival is a group formed by Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance. After growing tired of a life mining tiger's eye in the foothills of the Texas hill country, they hit the road to conceive a style that could be described as back-porch- folk rock.

Our next LCM featured artist South African born singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov has been travelling all his life but currently calls Colorado home. His songs share a masterful quality which tell a story of the miles and landscapes, and the search for a sense of place.

Our featured track is the beautiful ‘San Luis’ taken from his recently released album ‘Evening Machines’.Gregory’s songs are deep lyrical masterpieces, with hints of his influences Leonard Cohen and Bruce Springsteen.

Glasgow sextet James Edwyn & the Borrowed Band began in 2013, their formation the result of a series of unlikely coincidences. The band's music is a mix of alt-country, indie/folk rock and roots orientated Americana. Our featured song today ‘Quoting Sagan’ is the third single from their highly acclaimed second album ‘High Fences’.

If you would like to see the band live they will be performing at the FATEA 30th birthday bash in Bournemouth on Saturday followed by a gig at The Slaughtered Lamb in London on Sunday.

Their first album ‘The Tower’ was released in 2014 through the band’s own label, ‘Dead Records Collective’. The album was well received, achieving significant airplay and positive reviews across a broad range of media.

’High Fences’, the band’s 2017 follow up to The Tower, sees a big leap forward for the band. With Grammy nominated and ARIA-winning engineer Adrian Breakspear (Sony Australia) on mixing duties, the 10-track L.P. captures a bigger, harder edged sound without the band losing their trademark focus on finely honed arrangement and melody. The band’s first two singles from the album, Passing San Ysidro and Pushing Statues have both enjoyed significant radio play across the BBC and other radio networks.

A wonderful live band, they have continued to move from strength to strength. Their second year on the festival circuit in 2017 saw them stepping up to a number of main stages and cementing their growing reputation as a formidable live act. We take a trip today to Wellington in New Zealand to meet our next featured artist the multi-award winning and very talented Mel Parson. ‘I Got The Lonely’ is the first single from Mel’s forthcoming new album due in late 2018. It was produced by the excellent Mitchell Froom. We have been a big fan of Mel’s music for a few years now. Mel is one of New Zealand’s fast rising songwriting indie-folk singer-songwriter stars.

With a dynamite live show - solo, duo, or with her dynamic band, Mel is an engaging performer with a natural emotive voice that allows the listener to become part of the story. With a wide breadth of material, Parsons has a dynamic songwriting range: from the gutsy & rhythmic hand-clappers like audience favourite ‘Far Away’, through to pin-drop ballads like ‘Don’t Wait’, featuring Canadian songwriting royalty Ron Sexsmith.

Mel is a two-time NZ Music Award (VNZMA) finalist for ‘Folk Album of the Year’, and a current finalist for the coveted APRA Silver Scroll award. With home as a hotel room and a suitcase, she has built up a solid fan base the old fashioned way - winning over audiences on the live circuit. Besides Daniel is an independent eclectic folk band based around its front man and creative force Danny Brewer. Every great artistic talent stems from a great love, is cultivated by the intrigue of influence, and thrives on passion for human experience. Besides Daniel front man Danny Brewer’s immense talent is no exception. His poetic lyricism, natural-sounding acoustic riffs, and evocative voice combine to produce truly masterful melodies. In the works for three years, the album follows the all-girl band from youth to womanhood through songs with remarkable artistic range. Immaculate, perfectly-matched vocal harmonies and sharply observant lyrics embody themes of grief, recovery, wistful regrets, misplaced hopes, and new love in this much-anticipated release.

The award-winning band is fronted by twin sisters Sophia and Grace Babb on rhythm and lead guitars and vocals, with Nia Personette on violin and third-part harmony. Singing together since childhood, Sophia and Grace were given guitars and started songwriting at their mum’s urging after their father’s death compelled them to find an emotional outlet. They were 14 years old. A year later, they were joined by friend Nia on violin, herself no stranger to loss; she, too, had lost her father shortly before joining the band. Since the band’s formation, wise, emotive lyrics and sophisticated instrumentation have been hallmarks of their style.

Lyrics and music are written by these sisters who begin on their own, but afterward bring their work to each other for suggestions and to orchestrate instrumentation. “We tell stories that are quite personal,” says Sophia. “People who come out to hear us live will hear songs that cut to the bone because they come out of real-life events and relationships.” Examples are “Ghost” written by Sophia from the experience of living with a grief-stricken mother, and “Into the Light,” which Grace wrote about enduring love. “I felt an overwhelming sense of love for someone I’d only known for a short time,” Grace explained, “but I knew the feeling was potent. I wrote it one night while full of feelings, thinking about my parents and what they must have felt.”

The chemistry among this trio who have grown up together is tangible, their music an intimate invitation into an inner circle that makes live shows feel like a reunion of friends and family. “You’re hopefully going to leave having laughed a lot, been provoked more than once, and maybe having shed a tear or two,” Grace says.

Official showcase artists at SWRFA and Folk Alliance International in 2017, the trio tours on weekends and college breaks. University seniors who plan to tour full-time in 2019-20, Annie Oakley plays regularly to sold-out venues throughout the United States.

Based in Southend in Essex Carousel produce spellbinding live performances full of high quality songwriting, musicianship and super tight harmonies. We love this latest classy and reflective track, which we think has the feel of Glen Hansard’s ‘Falling Slowly’.

‘Shame’ is the wonderful new single from York based singer-songwriter Beth McCarthy. We first met Beth in Manchester over three years ago and have been big fans of her music ever since. With an excellent new album ‘On The Corner Where You Live’ released on Friday via Nettwerk Records, our featured artists today are Melbourne based band The Paper Kites. We have been big fans for a while, so we are so pleased to enjoy listening this latest chapter in the band’s great history.

The new album is the second part of two part series. The first was their wonderful ‘On The Train Ride Home’. Produced by Tom Iansek & frontman Sam Bentley, the band sustains their atmospheric midnight mood. A mostly acoustic collection, Bentley croons an album for the escapists, the street wanderers, the lovers and the lonely. The sincerity and brevity of the songs leave behind a space between each track that is personal and thought-provoking, simple stories, relatable and poetic, hanging in the air like smoke plumes. With minimal instrumentation, the arrangements remain sympathetic, rich and honest. Late night longings both romantic and heartbreaking, robust with hope, The Paper Kites deliver their most beautiful music to date. For the album’s artwork the band collaborated with Los Angeles film-noir artist Gina Higgins.

For the latest album recorded in Connecticut the band have been working with American producer Peter Katis (Interpol, The National).

Cerian - Wasteland ft. Robert Taira Wilson (Official video)

LCM #SongOfTheDay: We have something very special for you today. The exclusive first play of Cerian's new video for the excellent and beautiful 'Wasteland'.  

Wasteland is the much anticipated debut single by London-based singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Cerian. It is the first single to be released from Cerian’s upcoming EP Caught in the Dark - a series of songs written in the middle of the night. This debut single is the first of five songs to be released one at a time, which will result in the full EP in February 2019. The single has already garnered glowing reviews, and Cerian now releases the official video to accompany the song. 

A lifelong insomniac, Cerian is almost completely nocturnal, and these profoundly personal songs have grown out of her struggle with both the literal and internal darkness felt in the isolation of the early hours of the morning, when she would stay awake writing until dawn. Written just as she was trying to gain the confidence to share her own music with the world for the first time, Wasteland explores those feelings of loneliness and paralysing fear. Cerian explains: “In the dead of the night, terrifying existentialism takes over: seemingly frozen in time, you feel unable to traverse the space between where you are and where you want to be. The precipice of the unknown future is calling, but you don’t know if you’re going to fly or fall, if you can find the courage to jump.” 

It felt apt, therefore, to film the video for Wasteland at night. Shot and directed by film-maker Ioan Holland of Cumulo Media, filming was meticulously planned for the video to be shot in one-take with a series of timed smoke grenades. The smoke provides a constant wash of changing colours which gradually get revealed throughout the video. Starting in black and white, lines encroach on the screen to reveal the colour underneath, and these lines increase in number and intensity throughout the song until eventually at the emotional climax of the song, full colour is revealed. The lines also reveal a kaleidoscope effect underneath which reduces throughout the song, reflecting the sense of distortion evolving to clarity. Cerian explains, “We wanted the video to be a visual representation of the themes of the song - the journey from feeling lost and trapped in darkness and the search for freedom in light and colour. I’m joined in the video by Robert Taira Wilson, who also features on the song, and the evolution of the way we interact in the video charts human relationships and the notion that ultimately our journey through life is one we all have to take alone.” Shot during one night, the calm and entrancing smoke effect belies the frantic behind the scenes efforts it took to create this ethereal backdrop, which involved over 50 smoke grenades, several house fans and a dedicated crew standing just out of shot wafting the smoke with planks of wood and cardboard!

 Classically trained in harp, piano, and guitar, Cerian brings her varied skills together in atmospheric production, with Wasteland featuring entrancing soundscapes of dark ethereal indie folk pop which may be likened to London Grammar and Active Child. Recorded with collaborator Robert Taira Wilson, the single features Wilson’s intricate guitar playing and a soulful duet of Wilson and Cerian’s perfectly complemented voices dramatically building through rich layers of acoustic guitar and piano on top of epic orchestral drums, interwoven with dreamy eight-part choral backing. Twinkling harp is juxtaposed with its electronic manipulation to allow the instrument to be showcased in a uniquely dark pop setting.

Having just toured Europe, and with a series of shows planned in the UK and a tour of America this year, Cerian is set to continue seducing listeners with her heartfelt, honest and spellbinding music.

Agape - Bears Den

Our LCM featured artists today are London based Andrew Davie & Kev Jones better know collectively as the excellent Bear's Den. Our LCM #SongOfTheDay is a great song from their 'Islands' album entitled 'Agape'.

Bear's Den are a British folk rock band from London who formed in 2012. The band consists of Andrew Davie (lead vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar) and Kevin Jones (vocals, drums, bass, guitar) Bear's Den have released two studio albums: 'Islands' (2014) and their second studio album 'Red Earth & Pouring Rain' was released on 22 July 2016. Islands peaked at number forty-nine on the UK Albums Chart. The band has also issued two EPs: 'Agape' (2015) and 'Without/Within' (2013).

The band have been nominated for several music awards throughout their career, with "Above the Clouds of Pompeii" earning the band a nomination for the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically in 2015. The band received two nominations at the UK Americana Awards in 2016, Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for "Agape".

Another Story - The Head And The Heart

Every so often we like to go back in the LCM archives and share some great music with you that you might have missed. A wonderful example are our LCM featured artists today Seattle, Washington based band The Head and the Heart. Our LCM #SongOfTheDay is the beautifully written 'Another Story' taken from their 2013 'Let's Be Still' album. 

The band were formed in the summer of 2009 by Josiah Johnson (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Jonathan Russell (vocals, guitar, percussion). The band also includes Charity Rose Thielen (violin, guitar, vocals), Chris Zasche (bass), Kenny Hensley (piano), and Tyler Williams (drums). The band is signed to Warner Brothers and have released three albums thus far. Since March 2016, Johnson has been on hiatus due to health-related issues.The band has toured in both North America and Europe

The band met and was formed through a series of open mic nights at Seattle's Conor Byrne pub in Ballard. Josiah Johnson had moved to Seattle from Southern California to pursue graduate school, and Jonathan Russell was a recent transfer from Richmond, Virginia. They met keyboardist Kenny Hensley, who had also moved to Seattle to pursue musical score-writing, and Charity Rose Thielen, who had recently returned from a year studying abroad in Paris at the Sciences Po. Drummer Tyler Williams had been in the band Prabir and The Substitutes in Richmond, but then moved to Seattle to be a part of the nascent Head and The Heart, after hearing one demo that Russell sent to him for the song "Down In The Valley". Chris Zasche was bartending at the Conor Byrne, working aftercare shifts at The Perkins School, and playing in Seattle bands The Maldives and Grand Hallway, and was the last to be added to original lineup. Johnson explained how the name of the band was chosen: "Your head is telling you to be stable and find a good job, you know in your heart that this [the band] is what you're supposed to do even if it's crazy."

Tears In The Rain - O and O

One of the fast rising duos currently in London are our next LCM featured artists the wonderful Americana Folk Pop couple O&O. O&O are Colorado-native, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Obadiah Jones and Israeli vocalist, Orian Peled. The two met while studying for a Music BA at Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) where they had the unique opportunity of a one-on-one songwriting session with Sir Paul. Obadiah and Orian have been very busy since settling in London. releasing some great and memorable music as well as performing around the UK, including some major Country, Americana and Folk festivals. Their live show features the duo's distinctive, close-harmony sound with an Americana flare, imagine Fleetwood Mac meets The Civil Wars. With a brand new EP promised, our LCM #SongOfTheDay is the beautiful and sublime 'Tears In The Rain'.

Obadiah and Orian comment “The video for ‘Tears In The Rain’ is our second collaboration with filmmakers Jordan Rawi (director) and William Fielding (director of photography). We shot the whole video in one day at the historic Clementi House in Notting Hill. We wanted the video to reflect the uncertainty of where the relationship in the song stands and add a haunting element. In the video, the two characters are in a mysterious pursuit of each other through the many rooms of the quirky house, but whether or not they could ever find each other again is open to the viewer’s interpretation.” 

After select shows in NYC, Nashville and Colorado, O&O relocated to London and released their debut single, 'Traveling' in June 2017. Featured on Chris Country Radio's New Music List and Richer Unsigned's Best of August 2017 playlist.Although new to the London scene, O&O have made their presence felt on the live music circuit this last year with support slots for artists such as Australian Music Award nominees, the Germein Sisters, ahead of the band's appearance at the 2017 Isle of Wight Festival.

Walking On Fire - Lowes

We have been following very closely the progress of our next great LCM featured band LOWES since the autumn of 2016. We are delighted that they have recently released their debut four-track EP entitled 'Elements'. It's a follow up to their wonderful and critically acclaimed first single 'Awake At Night'. Our LCM #SongOfTheDay is the excellent 'new single "Walking On Fire" taken from the new EP, complete with a beautiful video filmed in Norway. We rate this band very highly and LOWES are one of our LCM 'Ones To Watch' in 2018.

Lowes are based in Lancaster and feature Evie Plumb, Jamie Walker, Luke Paget and Oliver Kane. We love Evie's vocals and songwriting. The band's vibe and sound reminds us of a cross between Rae Morris, Sia, London Grammar and Kate Bush. Let us know what you think?

Wish I Knew You - The Revivalists

We head to a sultry New Orleans to met our next LCM featured artists the award winning indie rock band The Revivalists. Our LCM #SongOfTheDay is their game-changing big hit “Wish I Knew You,” a great song from their third album, "Men Amongst Mountains". Guided by dynamic percussion and punchy horns, the single features a contagious hook and feel-good chorus that has resonated with fans across all different genres.

Though the album was released in July of 2015 (debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Alternative Albums chart), the band's break out single "Wish I Knew You" has a rare and undeniable staying power. The song steadily picked up steam in 2016 spending over 40 weeks on the Billboard Adult Alternative Chart where it peaked at #1 and maintained for multiple weeks. By 2017, the song crossed to Alternative radio rising quickly to #1 and breaking the Billboard chart record for most single-week spins ever at Alternative radio. “Wish I Knew You” then peaked inside the Top 15 at Adult Pop Radio and ultimately spent 9 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100. 

The meaning behind “Wish I Knew You” is up for debate and the band could not be happier about it. “Some of the best songs are the ones that don’t have just one meaning,” says vocalist David Shaw. “We love hearing all the different interpretations our fans have. Of course the song talks about the idea of wishing for more time together earlier in life, but we’ve heard all different takes on who that someone is, what the message means, and even what point of view the lyrics are coming from. We hope that people make our songs their own and ‘Wish I Knew You’ is like a canvas that our fans have filled with their imaginations and personal experiences. That is what we want our music to do.” 

The success of “Wish I Knew You” has opened many doors for the band, earning them praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Buzzfeed, Flaunt, Paste and Interview, nabbing them a nod as a ‘YouTube Artist on the Rise,’ and landing them performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! (the host called the song his “summer jam”), Conan, The Today Show, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where Shaw shared a rare and impromptu mid-performance dance with the star. "That was a surreal moment for us," he marvels. "Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be dancing with Ellen DeGeneres!”

And while “Wish I Knew You” has had a seismic effect on their career, The Revivalists’ relentless touring over the past several years has played a major part in getting them to this point. 

The band has sold-out headlining tours in 2015, 2016, and 2017, and performed sets at such marquee festivals as Bonnaroo, Governor’s Ball, Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits. This past year they were invited to perform on the main stage at New Orleans’ Jazz Fest (after six years playing the second stage) for 40,000 people, attracted 5,000 fans to their show at Central Park’s SummerStage in New York City, and visited cities like Toronto for the first time playing to packed houses.

I Found You - Kina Grannis & Imaginary Future

We head to LA is meet our next LCM featured artists Kina Grannis & Imaginery Future. Kina is a US American singer-songwriter, guitarist and winner of the 2008 Doritos 'Crash the Super Bowl' contest. As a result of winning, she earned a recording contract with Interscope Records and had her music video played during the commercials of Super Bowl XLII. Kina joined Patreon, a site created by Jack Conte to provide artists a living via direct support, in April 2014. In April 2017, she created a record label entirely composed of her patrons and began creating an album funded by her supporters called KG Records. Kina began recording, producing, and releasing songs from the upcoming album throughout 2017. We are please to report that Kina's new album entitled 'In The Waiting' is due for release on June 29th.

Motion Sickness - Phoebe Bridgers

Here at LCM HQ we love discovering new artists and music, and we often receive great recommendations. A few of our friends highly recommended our next LCM featured artist LA singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers. Her producer Ryan Adams once described her as 'a musical unicorn' comparing Phoebe to Bob Dylan. You will also be please to know that Phoebe is coming to the UK in May on tour with her #London date at the Islington Assembly Halls on the 23rd May. Last September she released her wonderful debut album 'Stranger In The Alps' via Dead Oceans produced by Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska. Our LCM 'Song Of The Day' is one of the lead singles, the breezy mid-tempo pop-rock 'Motion Sickness'. The whole album is well worth checking out. 

Phoebe is a graduate of Los Angeles County High School for the Arts where she studied vocal jazz.In 2014 she was featured in a commercial for the Apple iPhone singing a cover of 'Gigantic' by the Pixies. Phoebe's song 'Safe At Home' was also featured on season 3 episode 5 of the ABC Family show Switched At Birth and Season 3 episode 17 of the show featured her song 'Ask Me To/Steamroller.' Her song "Georgia" was featured on season 8 episode 2 of the ABC show 'Castle'.

Here We Are - Lowes

We have been following very closely the progress of our next great LCM featured band LOWES since the autumn of 2016. We are delighted that they will be shortly releasing their debut four-track EP entitled 'Elements'. It's a follow up to their wonderful and critically acclaimed first single 'Awake At Night'. Our LCM #SongOfTheDay is the excellent 'Here We Are' the first single taken from the new EP, complete with a beautiful video filmed in Norway. We rate this band very highly and LOWES are one of our LCM 'Ones To Watch' in 2018.

Lowes are based in Lancaster and feature Evie Plumb, Jamie Walker, Luke Paget and Oliver Kane. We love Evie's vocals and songwriting. The band's vibe and sound reminds us of a cross between Rae Morris, Sia, London Grammar and Kate Bush. Let us know what you think?

My Father's Son - Carousel

It's a very exciting time for our next LCM featured artists the multi-award winning Carousel. After a highly acclaimed live debut EP released last year, this very talented Essex based indie Americana four-piece are are following it up with new music and a headline UK Tour. Carousel (Thomas Eatherton, Chris Hobart, Sarah Holburn and Toby Shaer) formed in 2015 after four established musicians and friends came together with one goal - to spread their stories and passion through their unique, captivating and emotional music. Their eclectic blend of Indie-Americana exudes influences such as the lyrical power of Bob Dylan and the energy and delivery of The Lone Bellow. Their brand of heartfelt, engaging music is breathing new life into venues all over the UK as the band begins to spread their gospel.

Carousel released their debut, self-titled EP in 2017, attracting attention from popular publications such as Maverick Magazine, RnR Magazine and The Mighty. Their prosperity is thickening into a gold of accolades - a prosperous year saw the band land them the reputable vote of ‘EP of the Year’ and ‘Favourite New Artist of the Year’ on Laurel Canyon Music as well as being Named BBC Introducing in Essex ‘Sound of 2018’.

The start of 2018 saw Carousel continue to find success, supporting The Oh Hellos (USA) on their UK tour and seeing their single ‘Porcelain’ reach 100k streams on Spotify.

September/October 2018 will see the band debut on their own UK headline tour.
